This article covers the Algerian Olympic selection during the 1980 Summer Olympics .
Olympic qualification
After being able to prevail against Mali in the 1st round only after a penalty shoot-out , they had two victories against Morocco in the 2nd round and moved into the decisive 3rd round. There they qualified for the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow without a fight because Libya did not play against Algeria.

Games
In the preliminary round, after a win against Syria and a defeat against defending champion GDR in the last game against Spain, it was for second place in the group, which Algeria secured with a draw due to the better goal difference. Second they qualified for the quarter-finals, where they were eliminated from the tournament after losing to Yugoslavia.
