After a defeat against the eventual Olympic champion Czechoslovakia and a draw against Kuwait, they had the theoretical chance to take second place in the table with a big win against Nigeria. Colombia finished third despite a win due to the simultaneous draw between Czechoslovakia and Kuwait and eliminated from the tournament.
