Orduña is a city in the province of Vizcaya in the Spanish Basque Country with 4232 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2019).
geography
Orduña lies at 293 m above sea level in the source valley of the Nervión, which is enclosed by mountains . The highest mountain in the area is the Peña de Orduña (1,039 m).

history
Orduña was first mentioned in writing in the 8th century, at the time of Alfonso I. In the same century, the place was conquered by the Moors and briefly ruled until it fell back to the Kingdom of Asturias in the course of the Reconquista . In the 13th century the city established itself as the trading center of the plateau. In 1536 it was destroyed by a fire, and its economic importance declined as a result. Orduña experienced a new economic boom in the 18th century. At the beginning of the 20th century tourism opened up in the city and Orduña became a health resort through the use of thermal springs.

Orduña is around 40 km from the provincial capital, Bilbao, on the N-625 Bilbao - Pancorbo national road.
