Origins is the fifth studio album by the American rock band Dan Reed Network , released on November 23, 2018 . In the process of creation it is completely different from all albums previously recorded by the band.
history
All eight songs were recorded live, i.e. in a group. Fans of the group were given the opportunity to take part in the recordings by purchasing their participation and thus bearing part of the production costs. In return, they were involved in the entire creation process of the two-song recordings in the respective studio and contributed the backing vocals to the songs , usually as a choir . A new song and a reinterpretation of an old song were recorded for each session .
The first work took place in December 2017 at the Blueprint Studio in Manchester , where the first single , Fade to Light and a reinterpretation of Ritual were recorded. On May 12, 2018, the sessions for Right in Front of Me and Forgot to Make Her Mine followed in the "Power Station" studio in New York , and a week later the band recorded two more songs, Shameless and Let It Go in "Nia" Studio in her hometown of Portland . The last two tracks, One Last Time and Rainbow Child, were created on July 14, 2018 in Stockholm in the studio of a Swedish radio station.
The recording process for the album was now complete, but for the future release the group recorded two more songs in the Hansa Studios in Berlin on December 31, 2018 .
The artwork was created by Dan Reed and Rob Daiker produced , Brion James acted as Co-Producer. The sound mixing and mastering was also done by Rob Daiker. It was available on CD and LP (white vinyl only ), and was released on November 23, 2018. The cover was designed by Graeme Purdy Bell. The letters, arranged in a circle in the middle of the cover and reminiscent of runes , result in the sentence “Everybody Listen Not Just A Few Because The World Has A Heart Too” from the song World has a Heart Too from the band's debut album .

reception
Marcus Schleutermann from Rock Hard wrote that “only Right In Front Of Me 'with its great chorus is convincing of the new songs ;” with the new recordings of Ritual or Rainbow Child “this EP will be artificially inflated into an album.”
Rocks author Markus Baro, on the other hand, was of the opinion that "especially their first single, Ritual, and Forgot to Make Her Mine impressively demonstrated their former supremacy in the hard funk-rock sector". Fade to Light is "possibly the catchiest composition" of the band, and Shameless captivates "with a slight eighties New Wave touch." The "determination and musical power" of the songs on this album let "expect a lot for the upcoming album."
