Oriol Boronat (born May 11, 1992 in Barcelona ) is a Spanish ice hockey player who has been under contract with CG Puigcerdà in the Superliga since 2015 .

Career

Oriol Boronat began his career as a hockey player in the youth department of FC Barcelona , for which he made his debut in the Superliga in 2009 . In 2012 he moved from his hometown to the league competitor CG Puigcerdà on the French border. But after only a year he left the winter sports resort and returned to the Catalan metropolis, where he played for FC Barcelona for two more years. Since 2015 he has been back on the ice in Puigcerdà.

International

For Spain, Boronat took part in the junior division of the U18 World Junior Championships in Division II in 2008 , 2009 and 2010 and the U20 World Junior Championships in Division II in 2009 , 2010 , 2011 and 2012 . In his last junior year he was named the best player on his team.

He made his debut in the men's national team at the World Cup of Division II in 2010 , when the Spaniards achieved their first promotion to Division I at the tournament in Mexico City . Despite this success, Boronat was not part of the World Cup squad in his home country until 2013 , when the Iberians were relegated back to Division II. Also in 2014 , when he was also elected best striker as top scorer and top scorer, in 2015 , 2017 and 2018 , when he was named top scorer and second best preparer (together with New Zealander Jordan Challis ) after his compatriot Adrián Ubieto as the best player of his team , he took part in the World Championship of Division II. He also took part in the qualifying tournament for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi for his colors . There the Spaniards were eliminated at the first round tournament in Kiev despite a surprising 5-4 win over Estonia , to which Boronat alone contributed three goals.

Trainer

Boronat coached the Andorran national ice hockey team at the 2017 Development Cup .
