Oscar Wichtendahl

Oscar Wichtendahl , also Oskar Wichtendahl , (born October 18, 1860 in Hanover , † April 5, 1933 in Hanover) was a church painter of historicism .

Life

Wichtendahl studied painting and architecture at the art academies in Munich , Berlin and Stuttgart . From 1885 he lived and worked in Hanover and was a member of the board of the aesthetically conservative Hanover Art Association . In the 1880s he went on study trips to Italy , North Africa and the Middle East .

Around 1900 the painter Wichtendahl acquired the “Saline” property in Heyersum . The property later came into the possession of the painter L. Wichtendahl's daughter-in-law (Mrs. Schulz).

1910–1912 he accompanied Johann Albrecht von Mecklenburg on a trip to Asia . In 1922, the House of Braunschweig-Lüneburg appointed him curator of its art collections and administrator of the Welfenmuseum . Wichtendahl had been married to Laura (née Elbers) since 1890.

Wichtendahl's grave can be found in the Engesohde city cemetery .
