Osmancık is a city and a district in the Turkish province of Çorum . The city is located about 50 kilometers north of the provincial capital Çorum on the E-80 highway , which leads from Portugal via Istanbul , Amasya , Erzurum and Ağrı to Iran . The city of Osmancık is located in the valley of the Kızılırmak river between the Kavakdağ in the south and the 1732 meter high Cal Dağı in the north. The district town of Osmancık is home to around two thirds of the district's population (2018: 65.65%).
In Ottoman times the place was called Aflanos. The current name means "little Osman" and is an epithet (lakab) Osman I.

The district is located in the northeast of the province. It borders in the north on the province of Samsun , in the east on the province of Amasya , in the south on the districts of Laçin , Dodurga and Oğuzlar , in the southwest on the district İskilip and in the northwest on the district Kargı .
In addition to the district town, Osmancık district consists of 55 villages ( Köy ) with an average of 268 residents. Öbektaş (1,458) and Gökdere (1,075 inhabitants) are the two largest villages in the district, with the former also being the largest village in the province.
