Ottó Bíró (born August 17, 1988 in Miercurea Ciuc ) is a Romanian ice hockey player who has been playing at the ASC Corona 2010 Brașov in the Romanian ice hockey league and the MOL league since 2015 . His younger brother Tamás plays for HSC Csíkszereda .

Career

Club

Ottó Bíró, who belongs to the Hungarian-speaking Szekler minority in Romania , began his career at what was then HC Csíkszereda . For the team from his hometown Miercurea Ciuc he first played in the Romanian ice hockey , 2007/08 also in the Hungarian ice hockey league and in 2008/09 in the newly founded MOL league , which the team was able to win. After the HC Csíkszereda was dissolved after this season for financial reasons despite the championship title, Biró moved to the traditional neighbor HSC Csíkszereda . With the traditional club of the Szekler in Miercurea Ciuc he won the MOL league in 2011 and the Romanian championship title in 2012 and 2013 . In 2010 , 2011 and 2014 he won the Romanian cup competition with the HSC. In 2015 he left his hometown and joined the ASC Corona 2010 Brașov , for which he is also on the ice in the MOL League and the Romanian League and with which he was also Romanian champion in 2017.

International

Bíró plays internationally in contrast to other Szeklers who compete for Hungary , for his native Romania . He was already active in the junior division at world championships: In Division III of the U-18 World Championship in 2006 , he was involved in the promotion of the Romanians to Division II with eight goals and ten assists. He was then used in the same year in Division II of the U-20 World Cup , in which he was also on the ice in 2007 and 2008 .

Bíró made his debut in the men's national team in the Olympic qualification for the 2010 Vancouver Games . In 2011 he took part in Division II for the first time in the World Cup and rose to Division I with the Romanian selection. He then played in Division I in 2012 , 2014 , 2016 and 2018 , with the Romanians relegated to Division II in 2012, 2014 and 2016. At the 2017 World Cup , he played in Division II and rose with his team to Division I. He also represented his colors at the qualifying tournament for the Olympic Winter Games in Sochi 2014 .
