Otto Friedrich von Leps (* 1679 in Bermitten near Wehlau ; † October 9, 1747 in Soest ) was a Prussian general of the infantry .

Otto Friedrich was the son of Sigismund von Leps, Herr auf Bermitten, and his wife Elisabeth, née von BarIGE.

Military career

In 1692 Leps joined the Brandenburg Regiment "Anhalt on foot" . In 1702 he became a lieutenant and was adjutant to Prince Leopold of Anhalt-Dessau during the War of the Spanish Succession . In 1706 he became captain and on April 2, 1710 major and adjutant general of King Friedrich I. The successor Friedrich Wilhelm I kept him in this position. After taking Moers in November 1712, Leps brought the message of victory to Berlin. In 1715 the king awarded him a company of the regiment "Prince Leopold von Anhalt-Dessau" , promoted him in the same year, retroactively to September 6, 1713, to lieutenant colonel and commander of the regiment and on June 10, 1722 to colonel .

1735 he became regimental commander , the regiment "Waldow walk" . In 1738 he was appointed major general and received the order Pour le Mérite on August 2, 1740 . In the First Silesian War he led troops in Magdeburg and on the Elbe. In 1742 he was in command of Lippstadt Fortress when the king promoted him to lieutenant general during an inspection . In the Second Silesian War Leps secured Halle (Saale) against the Saxons in November 1745 and was able to excel in the decisive battle of Kesselsdorf on December 15 , for which the king awarded him the Order of the Black Eagle on January 18, 1746 . In May 1747 he appointed him general of the infantry in his 55th year of service. On October 9, 1747, Leps died as the last of his family in Soest, the location of his regiment, of an " debilitating disease ".
