The ED250 series is a series of by Alstom produced high-speed trains of PKP Intercity . The trains belong to the Pendolino product family , reach a top speed of 250 km / h and have been on the way in Poland as Express InterCity Premium since 14 December 2014 .
history
The contract between PKP Intercity and Alstom for the delivery of 20 trains was signed in May 2011, whereby the total costs for the procurement of the vehicles were 420 million euros. To make the procurement possible, EUR 93 million was provided by the EU Cohesion Fund . The transfer took place by rail.
The first train was presented to the public on August 12, 2013 in the Wroclaw railway station . The interior and the driver's cab of the train could be viewed. Around 4,000 people took part in this event, some of whom came from a great distance and had to wait up to an hour. Due to the great interest, the idle time of the train was extended by 90 minutes. The then Speaker of Parliament Grzegorz Schetyna and the then Minister of Transport Sławomir Nowak were also present.
The Pendolino was subjected to various test drives. For approval, it was possible to fall back on the results of test drives with the related trains ETR 600 and ETR 610 , but for approval for 250 km / h high-speed tests were necessary in which at least 275 km / h had to be reached. These high-speed tests were carried out on the " Central Railway Magistrale " CMK between Warsaw and Krakow , and a new speed record for rail vehicles on Polish soil was set at 293 km / h.
Maintenance of the trains will be carried out by Alstom for a period of 17 years in a newly built depot in Grochów near Warsaw. The ED250 has been in regular operation since December 14, 2014. A speed of 200 km / h is achieved on the CMK.
Technology and equipment
An ED250 multiple unit consists of seven cars that are driven by eight water-cooled three-phase asynchronous motors with an output of 708 kW each. The car body was made of aluminum and there are various systems on board as train protection.
The trains are currently only used within Poland, ETCS Level 1 and 2 and SHP are used. Manufacturer Alstom is obliged to enable use in Germany , Austria and the Czech Republic , which was already taken into account in the basic concept due to the presence of LZB , PZB and Mirel . Test drives began in spring 2017 with the aim of obtaining the necessary EBA approvals . In April 2020, a vehicle derailed during a test run in Munich.
According to the manufacturer, the trains were designed for operation between −25 ° C and +45 ° C at a maximum height of 1,000 m. The tilting technology, which gives the Pendolino its name, was not installed because the operational profile of the trains in Poland would not have experienced any significant advantages from tilting technology.
During the development, emphasis was placed on soundproofing the interior, which was achieved through the aerodynamic design of the roof structure and the soundproofing of the chassis.
On each side of the multiple unit there are ten electrically operated pivoting sliding doors , a wheelchair-accessible door with an integrated lift and a loading door for the dining car . Each driver's cab also has separate entry doors.
The trains have a passenger information system with two monitors attached to the ceiling of each car and displays on each door, which can be used to show information about the train's movement. There is also an electronic system for managing seat reservations. There are two surveillance cameras in each car . There are a total of nine on- board toilets , one of which is handicapped accessible. For bicycles four bike racks are available per train.
Accidents
- On April 7, 2017, an express train from Wroclaw to Warsaw crashed into a truck at an unguarded level crossing in Schodia in southwest Poland. Of the approximately 300 passengers on the train, at least 18 were injured.
- On September 26, 2017, a "Pendolino" from Gdynia to Bielsko-Biała and an airport bus from Koleje Mazowieckie collided in Modlin near Warsaw. Neither the bus passengers nor the approximately 200 passengers on the train were harmed.
