Pacanów is a city in the Powiat Buski in the Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship in Poland . It has about 1,137 inhabitants (2003).

Pacanów is the administrative seat of the urban-and-rural municipality ( gmina miejsko-wiejska ) Pacanów with 7,800 inhabitants and an area of ​​123.8  km² . 87% of the area of ​​the municipality is used for agriculture.

history

Pacanów received in 1265 the town charter . In the 14th century the city had about 800 inhabitants and was larger than Kielce at that time . In 1700 , cholera raged in the city, causing numerous deaths. A devastating fire disaster followed in 1854 . In 1869 the town charter was revoked. On January 1, 2019, Pacanów was restored to town.

Pacanów is best known as the place that the hero of the children's books of the Przygody Koziołka Matołka series by Kornel Makuszyński , very popular in Poland , should seek.
