The district of Pamparomás is located in the province of Huaylas in the Ancash region in western Peru . The district was founded on January 2, 1857. It has an area of ​​about 500 km². The 2017 census counted 8476 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 7731, in 2007 it was 8607. The district administration is located in the 2862  m high village of Pamparomás with 486 inhabitants (as of 2017). Pamparomás is 19 km west of the provincial capital Caraz .

Geographical location

The Pamparomás district is located on the western flank of the Cordillera Negra in the southwest of the Huaylas province. The eastern district boundary runs along the watershed of the Cordillera Negra. The north and the central part of the district are drained via the Río Larea, the south via the Río Loco to the west to the Río Nepeña .

The district of Pamparomás borders in the southwest and in the south on the district Quillo ( province Yungay ), in the west on the district Moro ( province Santa ), in the northwest on the district Caceres del Perú (also in the province Santa), in the northeast on the districts Mato and Huata and in the east to the districts of Caraz and Pueblo Libre .
