The 64th Paris – Nice cycle race took place from March 5th to 12th, 2006. It was held in a prologue and seven stages over a distance of 1,276.3 kilometers. In addition to the 20 participating ProTour teams, the Agritubel team received a wildcard.

The prologue held in the Paris suburb of Issy-les-Moulineaux was won by last year's winner Bobby Julich . He was the first to wear the yellow jersey of the overall leader at Paris – Nice 2006. However, he lost this jersey the following day to the reigning cycling world champion Tom Boonen , the fifth of the prologue and winner of the following two stages. The preliminary decision in the overall ranking of this tour was made by Floyd Landis, who, together with Francisco Vila, was able to break away from his pursuers at the Col de la Croix de Chaubouret a few kilometers from the finish in Saint-Étienne . Floyd Landis finished second behind the day's winner Francisco Vila on this stage and took over the yellow jersey, which he was able to defend until Nice , the end of the tour. The points classification won after the retirement of the sprinters Tom Boonen (7th stage) and Allan Davis (5th stage) Samuel Sanchez. The best climber was David Moncoutié, who only took over the leading position from Christophe Laurent on the final stage.
