Rainer Tittelbach judged that the film was touching "although the heroine was sometimes embarrassing" and that despite "an alleged happy ending [...] it did not lapse into romantic whitewash". The leading actress Schmeide succeeds "in turning her 'little wife' with all her hopes and fears into a deeply lovable person who openly shows his needs". The other actors would also convince “with their casually realistic play”.
The film website kino.de said that the film lives “mainly from the many everyday scenes” that are staged with “fine irony”. In conclusion, it says: “An ensemble film that is well worth seeing, which, despite all the realism, can even afford an occasional fairytale quality.”
The program magazine TV Spielfilm criticized that the film "too often relies on dramaturgical clichés". Nevertheless, a “touching and cheeky little people film” emerged. Conclusion: "Sometimes bumpy, but with a lot of heart."
Honors
Fritz Karl received a nomination as Most Popular Actor at the award ceremony for the Austrian Romy Film and Television Prize , but was unable to win the award.
