Patriotic platform

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Patriotic Platform eV (PP) is an association of members of the völkisch - nationalist right wing wing of the Alternative for Germany party (AfD). It is headed by Hans-Thomas Tillschneider , member of the state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt .

In September 2018, the association's board requested that the association dissolve itself.

Content and classification

In political science, the patriotic platform is considered to be part of the far right wing of the AfD or of the völkisch-nationalist spectrum. Oskar Niedermayer classified the PP 2015 as “dedicated national-conservative ”.

According to the sociologist and political scientist Armin Pfahl-Traughber , the question of extremism for the “Patriotic Platform” as well as the “ Wing ” hardly arises, since clear positions and tendencies can be identified there.

The PP was one of the first internal party currents to mobilize for a political orientation of the AfD against Islam . In doing so, the PP does not argue critically of religion , but rather folk-nationalist and racist . In one of their position papers it says: “The problem is not Islam, the problem is the multicultural society .” The PP's rejection of Islam is only used as a code for the defense against any kind of immigration by “foreigners”.

According to Anna-Lena Herkenhoff, the Patriotic Platform serves as a mouthpiece for members of the right wing of the party. It overlaps with the Junge Alternative in terms of both content and personnel . In terms of content, she is close to the pro NRW program and speaks out against Germany's multicultural society.

According to information from the news magazine Der Spiegel, several constitutional protection agencies are dealing with the PP. The Office for the Protection of the Constitution of Saxony-Anhalt assessed the PP in 2017 as an “extreme right-wing group within the AfD”. However, she is "not party-shaping" for the AfD.

In 2014 the PP published a statement Solidarity with Israel - Solidarity with Germany , which said “We stand for Israel and Judaism in Germany ”, but also complained about a lack of solidarity between Israel and the Jews in Germany and more support from this side "In our dispute with the Islamic associations" was demanded. The political scientists Marc Grimm and Bodo Kahmann criticize the fact that Jews are “presented as a homogeneous group” to which the undemocratic expectation of unanimous support is placed, and that representatives of Judaism in Germany who publicly contradict the positions of right-wing extremist parties (in this Charlotte Knobloch case , who spoke out in favor of the establishment of the Munich Islamic Center in 2010), have been heavily criticized for this. This "denunciation" of Knobloch on the part of the PP refers "to a transmission of anti-Semitic affects and stereotypes in the pro-Israeli and pro-Jewish statements of the AfD".

In September 2018, Tillschneider announced that the association should be dissolved in order to "offer no target". The background was a possible surveillance of the AfD by the constitution protection. In addition, the platform outlived itself because it had served its purpose of preventing the party's development into an "overly moderate 'sham alternative'".

Membership, organization and cooperation

The PP has nationwide members, including some top politicians from the AfD, and strives to act as the extreme right wing of the party without being captured by its party structures. According to a report by the Danish newspaper Politiken from January 2017, around a third of the 26,000 AfD members should belong to the PP.

Within the AfD, the PP's proximity to the anti-constitutional “ Identitarian Movement ” (IB) and their positions are controversial. The PP does not feel bound by the AfD's 2016 incompatibility decision: "We would like closer cooperation between the Identitarian Movement and the AfD, because the AfD is also an Identitarian Movement and the Identitarian Movement is an alternative for Germany."

The spokesperson for the PP has been Hans-Thomas Tillschneider, who was elected to the state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt in 2016.

Jens Maier , an AfD MP from Saxony, is also a board member . The secretary is Alexander Tassis , AfD MP in Bremen.

Board member was u. a. Jan Moldenhauer , speaker of the AfD parliamentary group in the state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt and chairman of the Friedrich-Friesen-Stiftung .

Benjamin Nolte, member of the right-wing fraternity Danubia Munich , founded the patriotic platform in Bavaria at the end of 2014 together with some fraternity members and former members of the anti-Islamic small party Die Freiheit , which was observed by the Bavarian Office for the Protection of the Constitution.
