Martin Gerster
Martin Gerster (born August 30, 1971 in Biberach an der Riss ) is a German politician ( SPD ) and a member of the Bundestag. In 2017 he was re-elected to the Bundestag via the state list.
Life and work
After graduating from high school in 1991 at Pestalozzi-Gymnasium Biberach , Gerster initially completed an internship at Radio 7 and then began studying political science , history and economics at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz in 1994 , which he completed in 2002 as a Magister Artium .
During his studies he worked as a freelance editor for Radio 7, the Schwäbische Zeitung and the ZDF . He also worked from 1999 to 2001 with the Democratic National Committee in Washington and with Hillary Clinton for Senate in New York. He was a member of the SPD's campaign team for the state elections in Baden-Württemberg in 2001 . From 2002 to 2005 he was parliamentary advisor (parliamentary group officer) to the SPD parliamentary group in the state parliament of Baden-Württemberg .
From 2006 to 2014 he was President of the German Sports Acrobatics Association and has been its Honorary President since then. Gerster has been Vice President of the THW Federal Association since 2018 .
Political party
Gerster has been a member of the SPD since 1990 and has been chairman of the SPD district association Biberach since 2001 .
MP
In 2005 he joined the Biberach constituency and was elected to the German Bundestag via the state list . In the 16th German Bundestag he was initially a member of the Interior Committee and the Sports Committee . In September 2007 Gerster moved from the Interior Committee to the Finance Committee .
In 2009 he moved into the 17th Bundestag again via the state list and continued his work in the finance committee, in the sports committee he was spokesman for the SPD parliamentary group . He was also the deputy spokesman for the “Strategies Against Right-Wing Extremism ” working group of his group. In 2012, Martin Gerster joined the budget committee for Lothar Binding and was in charge of the individual plan of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development . In this function, Gerster was also a member of the supervisory board of the Society for International Cooperation .
After the 2013 federal election , Gerster moved into the 18th Bundestag . He is a member of the budget committee and, as the rapporteur, oversees the individual budget of the Federal Ministry of the Interior , he is also a member - and since September 2016 the spokesman for his parliamentary group - in the audit committee.
In the 19th German Bundestag Gerster belongs to the Budget Committee, the Audit Committee and the Trust Committee for the secret budgets of the intelligence services of the Federation of. Gerster is deputy chairman of the budget committee and chairman of the audit committee. He is also a full member of the trust committee and is a deputy member of the Committee for Building, Housing, Urban Development and Local Authorities , the Committee for Home Affairs and Home Affairs , the Digital Agenda Committee and the Board of Trustees of the Federal Agency for Civic Education.
Gerster plays for the FC Bundestag in defense and took part in the 2014 European Championship in Vienna.
