Paul Konrad Kurz
Paul Konrad Kurz (born April 8, 1927 in Schussenried ; † November 10, 2005 ) was a German writer .
Life
Paul Konrad Kurz grew up in Schussenried ; from 1939 he was a student at a boarding school in Nürtingen . In 1943 he was drafted as an anti-aircraft helper. After he had done his labor service, he began a course for officer candidates in December 1944 . At the end of March 1945 he was seriously wounded near Bad Mergentheim .
After his recovery and return home, Paul Konrad Kurz passed his school leaving examination and then joined the Jesuit order . He completed his novitiate in Pullach and then studied philosophy in Ireland from 1950 to 1953 and theology in Innsbruck from 1953 to 1957 ; He completed both courses with a licentiate degree . Kurz was ordained a priest and studied German and English from 1958 to 1964 at the University of Munich . He then worked there as a lecturer for modern German literature ; In 1967 he earned his doctorate in philosophy with a thesis on Heinrich Heine . In addition to his academic work, Kurz worked for the Catholic cultural magazine “ Voices of Time ”, wrote literary reviews for newspapers and magazines and gave lectures.
In 1972 Paul Konrad Kurz gave up the priesthood ; he resigned from the Jesuit order and married; the marriage resulted in two children. He now worked as a German teacher at a Munich grammar school and continued his literary criticism . Kurz, who last lived in Gauting , died of cancer from which he had suffered since 2000.
In addition to an extensive literary scholarly and critical work, Paul Konrad Kurz has published poems , mainly of a religious nature, since 1963 . In addition, he published anthologies with modern Christian literature.
Paul Konrad Kurz was a member of the PEN Center Germany and the European Academy of Sciences and Arts . In 1973 he received the critics' award “Die goldene Feder” , in 1985 the Günther-Klinge-Preis of the community of Gauting and in 2001 the Order of Merit of the State of Baden-Württemberg .
