Paul Campbell Murdoch (born December 31, 1952 in Glendale ) is a Canadian evangelical theologian , pastor of the Württemberg regional church and was a study director at the Albrecht Bengel House in Tübingen and an author.

Life

Paul Campbell Murdoch was born the third child of his Canadian father Roderick Campbell Murdoch and his American mother Lois Kathleen; He grew up in the state of California and British Columbia . He was spiritually shaped in the Brethren Church of Plymouth . After graduating from school in Canada, he came to Germany in 1970. During the short Bible school of the torchbearer movement at the "Bodenseehof" he discovered his interest in theology. After graduating from the Graf-Zeppelin-Gymnasium in Friedrichshafen, he studied Protestant theology , missiology and Slavic studies in Tübingen , Helsinki (semester abroad 1975/1976) and Erlangen-Nuremberg from 1973 . From 1977 to 1979 he was vicar of the Württemberg regional church in Tailfingen and Nebringen . From 1978 to 1980 he was a student assistant at the Albrecht Bengel House in Tübingen. In 1981 he received his doctorate at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg with his dissertation on the history and theology of the Christian East The sacramental- philosophical aspect in Nikolai Alexandrovitsch Berdjaev's thinking . From 1980 to 1981 and from 1983 to 1985 he taught as a visiting professor for the Liebenzeller Mission at the Micronesian Institute for Biblical Studies , now the Pacific Islands Bible College (PIBC) on Truk (Micronesia) . 1980/81 and 1983 to 1985 he was a guest lecturer at the theological seminar of the Liebenzeller Mission and from 1983 to 1985 he was a parish administrator in Urbach (Remstal) . Between 1985 and 1995 he was with the Finnish Evangelical Lutheran Mission in Pakistan, where he was kidnapped in 1990 and between 1993 and 1995 he was a member of the Islamic Committee of the Finnish Evangelical Lutheran. Church. He then moved to the Hohenhaslach community , where he held the pastoral position until 2009. From October 2009 to October 2018 he was director of studies and lecturer for New Testament and missions and religious studies (Islam) and ecumenical theology at the Albrecht Bengel House.

From 2000 to 2012 he was chairman of the "Working Group Religious Freedom - Human Rights - Commitment to Persecuted Christians" (AKREF) of the German Evangelical Alliance and works on the theological commission of the World Evangelical Alliance . Murdoch is visiting professor at the German branch of Columbia International University at the Academy for World Mission in Korntal . As founding chairman, from 2007 to 2012 he was chairman of the International Institute for Religious Freedom based in Bonn, Cape Town and Colombo (IIRF) and is still a member of the supervisory board today. As a committee member, he is involved in helping brothers . He is involved in the working group for intercultural work of the Liebenzeller community association and is the initiator of the integration congress 2018 on the Schönblick .

Murdoch is a sought-after speaker and speaker at women's breakfast events, evening Bible schools, congresses and meetings and the author of several books and numerous articles.

Private

Murdoch married the Finnish anthropologist Marja-Liisa Laihia in 1975. He has four children with her. After the divorce in 1994, he married Regine Nonnenmacher in 1996, who brought two children into the marriage. He lives in Ofterdingen near Tübingen.
