Paul Ranger (born September 12, 1984 in Whitby , Ontario ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who was last under contract with Genève-Servette HC in the National League A.

Career

The 1.88 m tall defender began his career in the Canadian Junior League Ontario Hockey League with the Oshawa Generals , before he was selected in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft as 183rd in the sixth round of the Tampa Bay Lightning .

During the 2004/05 lockout season , the left-handed shooter was used for the first time with the Tampa Bay farm team Springfield Falcons in the American Hockey League , after good performance in the American Hockey League he was part of the Tampa Bay Lightning squad in the following season . In 2007 Ranger was nominated for the YoungStars Game, which was part of the supporting program of the NHL All-Star Game , where he played for the Eastern Conference team .

For personal reasons, Ranger had missed almost the entire 2009/10 season and was only used in eight NHL games. In September 2010, the defender also did not participate in the Bolts training camp . Since he was not re-signed by December 1, the Canadian was not eligible for the entire season in the NHL.

After two seasons off, he returned to professional ice hockey and joined the Toronto Marlies from the American Hockey League for the 2012/13 season .

Because of his performance there, he was signed for the 2013-14 NHL season by the Maple Leafs. In March 2014, he was seriously injured in a game against his old club Tampa Bay Lightning. In July 2014, the defender signed a two-year contract with Genève-Servette HC from the National League A , which was however dissolved after the first season.
