Heinrich Ehrich Paul Ernst Schimpke (born November 25, 1880 in Gladbach ; † May 11, 1970 in Munich ) was a German professor of materials science and welding technology and rector of the State Academy of Technology in Chemnitz.

Schimpke studied mechanical engineering at the Technical University of Berlin from 1898 to 1902 . He then worked in mines and smelters in Gelsenkirchen and Rheinhausen as a design engineer, site manager and production engineer.

From 1909 he taught at the Chemnitz Business Academy . There he initially took over the subjects of mechanical technology , materials science , metallurgy , foundry and welding technology and from 1922 also the courses for oxy-fuel and electric welding . In 1922 Schimpke played a key role in setting up one of the first welding laboratories at a technical training facility in Germany. From 1926 to 1945 Schimpke was rector of the State Academy of Technology , the predecessor institution of the Technical University of Chemnitz. On November 6, 1945 he was replaced as rector.

Schimpke wrote several standard works on welding technology and materials science, some of which were published until the 1980s.
