Günther Grünthal

Günther Grünthal (born April 4, 1938 in Berlin ) is a German historian and university professor .

Life

At the green valley studied from 1957 to 1963 Georg-August University of Göttingen and the Free University of Berlin , the subjects history , German language and literature , philosophy and pedagogy . In 1963 he passed the first state examination for higher teaching qualifications , followed by his doctorate in 1966 . He then worked as a research assistant at the Friedrich Meinecke Institute at the Free University of Berlin. In the same year he switched to the chair of Walter Bußmann at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . He stayed there until 1970 and then went to the University of Karlsruhe . In 1975 habilitated he and received a teaching license for newer and newest history.

In 1980 Grünthal was appointed professor . From 1986 to 1989 he was Vice Dean and Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. In 1993 he accepted a professorship for modern and contemporary history at the Technical University of Chemnitz . There he was dean of the newly founded philosophical faculty and member of the Senate from 1994 to 1997 . In October 2000 he became rector of the TU Chemnitz. After his retirement in 2003, he lives in Ettlingen .

The academic works of Grünthal include numerous monographs and essays, particularly on the history of the German constitution and political parties in the 19th and 20th centuries, as well as the history of Prussia and the Weimar Republic. In addition to the research and teaching tasks as well as intensive administrative obligations, Grünthal has rendered outstanding services to the promotion of Central and Eastern European contacts and above all to the introduction of new, inter-faculty courses as part of the expansion of the new Philosophical Faculty at the Technical University of Chemnitz .
