Gustav miracle
Gustav Martin Wunder (born October 26, 1830 in Meißen , † September 20, 1885 in Chemnitz ) was a German chemist and director of the Chemnitz State Technical College, the predecessor of the Chemnitz University of Technology .
Life
Wunder studied chemistry and mathematics at the universities of Jena and Leipzig as well as at the Paris École polytechnique with the chemist and physicist Henri Victor Regnault . After completing his doctorate in 1856, he took over the teaching of analytical, technical and agricultural chemistry at the royal trade school in Chemnitz. In 1873 he was appointed as a member of the jury for the Vienna World Exhibition . There he was also honored with the Medal of Progress for his work.
In 1876 he resigned from the Saxon civil service. He received the order from the Imperial Austrian Ministry for Culture and Education to build a state trade school based on the model of the higher trade school in Chemnitz in the Bohemian Reichenberg . He then returned to Chemnitz and was director of the Technical State Schools in Chemnitz from 1877 to 1885. Wunder encouraged the Chemnitz professor Adolf Ferdinand Weinhold, after visiting the World Exhibition in Paris in 1878 , to increasingly turn to electrical engineering as a new subject. From Easter 1882, classes in electrical engineering were included as an option in the trade school and foreman school.
Wunder attached great importance to equipping the classrooms and laboratories with the latest technology. He went on study trips and visited the laboratories for chemistry at the universities of Basel, Berlin, Bonn, Heidelberg, Pest and Vienna as well as those of the Polytechnic of Aachen and Zurich. Wunder got the most important suggestions from Hermann Kolbe at the laboratory of the University of Leipzig. During his tenure, he continued to take care of the establishment of a construction department (1878), the conversion of the chemical department of the foremen's school into a dyeing school and the establishment of a miller and soap mill .
