Georg Schnedermann

Georg Heinrich Eberhard Schnedermann (born October 21, 1818 in Hatzum ; † January 30, 1881 in Dresden ) was a German chemist and director of the Royal Chemnitz Industrial School, the predecessor of the Chemnitz University of Technology .

Life

Schnedermann finished his pharmacy studies at the University of Göttingen in 1840 as a prescriptionist . He then studied chemistry at the University of Giessen with Justus von Liebig . There he obtained his doctorate on February 15, 1845. phil. After completing his doctorate, Schnedermann worked as a teacher at a public school in Leipzig . In 1847 he was appointed professor for technical chemistry, general chemistry, natural history and practical chemical work at the Chemnitz industrial school . In 1848 he took over the management there on behalf of the absent Julius Ambrosius Hülße . In 1850 he was appointed director of the trade school. In this office, which he held until 1866, he concentrated on setting up the agricultural department, expanding the chemistry laboratory and setting up a physical collection.

Schnedermann was co-editor of the Polytechnisches Centralblatt , which was founded by Hülße. Together with Wilhelm Knop he published several articles on topics of bio- and food chemistry .
