Rudolph Berndt

Rudolph Berndt (also: Rudolf Berndt) (* February 23, 1838 in Seifhennersdorf ; † February 14, 1919 in Klotzsche ) was a German educator and director of the Chemnitz State Technical College, the predecessor of the Chemnitz University of Technology .

Life

Berndt completed a technical degree at the Dresden Polytechnic in 1861 . After several years of practical experience, he worked as a teacher for the subjects of mechanics, spinning mechanics, mechanical engineering, brewery mechanics and water pipe construction at the Chemnitz State Technical College. Together with Gustav Wunder and Adolf Ferdinand Weinhold , he visited the World Exhibition in Paris in 1878 , where he got a lot of ideas, for example in the field of innovative refrigeration and ice machines. In 1879 he took over the management of the material testing institute for metals.

Rudolph Berndt was director of the technical state schools in Chemnitz from 1885 to 1908. During his tenure in 1895, the engineering laboratory was set up as one of the first of its kind in Germany. In the years 1904 to 1909, numerous structural extensions of the state schools were carried out. Since 1898 he was a full member of the Technical Deputation of Saxony. He represented the Saxon state government in the management of the higher weaving school in Chemnitz , the weaving school in Limbach and the trade school for toys in Grünhainichen .

Berndt retired in spring 1908.
