Eduard Theodor Böttcher

Eduard Theodor Böttcher (born January 10, 1829 in Dresden ; † May 10, 1893 there ) was a German mechanic and university rector.

Life

The baker's son attended the Kreuzgymnasium in his hometown and then began to work in the Freiherrlich von Burgker coal works. Then Böttcher began studying at the Bergakademie Freiberg , where he received his training from Julius Ludwig Weisbach ; here he joined the Corps Saxo-Borussia and the Corps Franconia .

On April 1, 1852, Böttcher was hired as an assistant teacher for mathematics and machine drawing at the royal trade school in Chemnitz and, in the following year, a professorship for mechanical engineering and spinning mechanics.

In 1853 and 1854 Böttcher was appointed judge for the industrial exhibitions in Munich , Paris , London and Vienna . Since 1857 Böttcher was a member of the board of directors of the Chemnitz stock spinning mill. In 1863 he was appointed a member of the Technical Deputation in the Saxon Ministry of the Interior, of which he took over in 1876. In 1866 Böttcher was appointed rector of the royal trade school in Chemnitz, a position he held until 1876. During this time, the trade school changed to a higher technical college. The main building of the Technical University of Chemnitz, inaugurated in 1877, bears the name Böttcher today.

Böttcher died in Dresden in 1893 and was buried in the Trinitatisfriedhof .
