Günther Hecht

Günther Hecht (born November 24, 1937 in Granzin ; † June 6, 2020 in Chemnitz ) was a German professor of technical physics and rector of the Technical University of Chemnitz .

Life

Günther Hecht studied physics at the Technical University of Dresden from 1956 to 1961 . After graduating, he worked in the field of analytical measurement technology at the Institute for Automatic Control in Berlin. From 1964 he worked as a scientific assistant at the Institute for Physics at the University of Mechanical Engineering in what was then Karl-Marx-Stadt . In 1969 he was promoted to Dr. rer. nat. doctorate and in 1970 received the “ Facultas docendi ”. The appointment as a university lecturer for solid state physics followed. He completed his habilitation (“Dissertation B”) on the subject of the deposition of semiconductor layers using ion processes in 1979.

In 1991 he was appointed associate professor and full professor for technical physics at the TU Chemnitz in 1992. From 1991 to 1997 Günther Hecht was rector of the Technical University of Chemnitz, the first elected rector of the TU Chemnitz after the fall of the Wall. He was particularly committed to the new beginning of the TU Chemnitz after the fall of the Wall.

From 1994 to 1997 he was a curator at the Fraunhofer Institute for Surface Engineering and Thin Films IST. Hecht supervised over 20 doctoral and 50 diploma theses. He has published over 80 essays and scientific papers.
