Paul von Prittwitz (born September 11/22 , 1791 in Hapsal , Estonia , † February 21, 1856 in Saint Petersburg , Russia ) was an Imperial Russian Lieutenant General and Senator .

family

Prittwitz came from the old, widely branched Silesian noble family of the von Prittwitz and was the son of the Imperial Russian Colonel Karl Friedrich von Prittwitz and Auguste Juliane von Schwaan.

His first marriage was on March 8, 1822 in St. Petersburg, Anna Gardinin († 1830 in St. Petersburg), from Russian nobility, the daughter of the landowner Demetrius Gardinin.

After her death, Prittwitz married Natalie Schalachnikow (born October 4, 1816 in Odessa, † October 27, 1901 in Bjelyj Kljutsch, Kr. Bugulma, Samara Governorate ) in St. Petersburg on November 26, 1834 , from the Russian nobility, the Daughter of the Imperial Russian Lieutenant General Nikolai Schalachnikow and Maria Lindfors.

He was the older brother of the Imperial Russian Major General Friedrich Karl von Prittwitz .

Military background

Prittwitz was staff officer of the Russian army in the wars of liberation 1812 - 1815 and in the campaign against Poland (winter 1830 ).

In 1831 he was promoted to major general. At that time he was director of the Cadet Corps in Oryol and vice-director of all military settlements. Through tough austerity measures, he won the favor of Tsar Nicholas I.

In 1844 he became lieutenant general and in 1850 he received the dignity of senator .
