Pawłów ( German  Pawlau ) is a village in Upper Silesia . Administratively it lies in the municipality of Pietrowice Wielkie (Groß Peterwitz) in the powiat Raciborski (district of Ratibor) in the Silesian Voivodeship .

Pawłów is located three kilometers northeast of the municipality seat Pietrowice Wielkie (Groß Peterwitz), nine kilometers west of the district town Racibórz (Ratibor) and 66 kilometers west of the voivodeship capital Katowice .

The place is close to the border with the Czech Republic.

history

The place was created in the 13th century at the latest. 1295–1305 the place was first mentioned in the Liber fundationis episcopatus Vratislaviensis (tithe register of the diocese of Breslau) as "Paulow".

The place was mentioned in 1784 in the book Beytrage to describe Silesia as Paulau , belonged to a Lord von Poser and was in the principality of Ratibor. At that time he had 193 inhabitants, as a mansion, a Vorwerk , a church, ten peasants, 26 gardeners and four Häusler. In 1865 Pawlau consisted of a manor and a community. The manor belonged to a Mr. von Fragstein and a Mr. Klapper, among others. At that time, the place had five farms, eight half-farmers, 25 gardeners and 57 cottagers, as well as two windmills, an inn, bricklayers, carpenters and brickworkers. The Wilhelmsdorf colony was founded in Pawlau in the 18th century .

In the referendum in Upper Silesia on March 20, 1921, 353 local voters voted for Upper Silesia to remain with Germany and 271 for membership in Poland. On the estate, 66 voted for Germany and three for Poland. After the division of Upper Silesia, Pawlau remained with the German Empire . In 1936 the place was renamed Paulsgrund as part of a wave of renaming during the Nazi era . Until 1945 the place was in the district of Ratibor .

In 1945 the formerly German town came under Polish administration and was then attached to the Silesian Voivodeship and renamed the Polish Pawłów . In 1950 the place came to the Opole Voivodeship. In 1975 the place came to the Katowice Voivodeship. In 1999 the place came to the re-established powiat Raciborski and the Silesian Voivodeship.
