Maków (German Makau ) is a place in Upper Silesia . Administratively it lies in the municipality of Pietrowice Wielkie (Groß Peterwitz) in the powiat Raciborski (district of Ratibor) in the Silesian Voivodeship .

Maków is three kilometers north of the municipal seat of Pietrowice Wielkie (Groß Peterwitz), twelve kilometers west of the district town Racibórz (Ratibor) and 68 kilometers west of the voivodeship capital Katowice .

The place is close to the border with the Czech Republic. The Zinna River flows nearby .

history

The place was created no later than the 13th century. It was first mentioned in a document in 1222.

The place was mentioned in 1784 in the book Beytrage to describe Silesia as Makkau , consisted of two parts, both belonged to a General von Dallwig and were in the Principality of Ratibor. At that time he had three farms , 17 farmers, 42 gardeners and eight cottagers. In 1865 Mackau consisted of a manor and a community. At that time the place had two farms, six two-thirds farmers, four half-farmers, four-thirds farmers, 44 gardeners and 44 cottagers, as well as two windmills, tailors and shoemakers. In 1863 the church was renovated.

In the referendum in Upper Silesia on March 20, 1921, 394 local voters voted for Upper Silesia to remain with Germany and 146 for membership in Poland. On the estate, 112 voted for Germany and five for Poland. Makau remained with the German Empire after the division of Upper Silesia . Until 1945 the place was in the district of Ratibor .

In 1945 the until then German place came under Polish administration and was then attached to the Silesian Voivodeship and renamed Maków in Poland . In 1950 the place came to the Opole Voivodeship. In 1975 the place came to the Katowice Voivodeship. In 1999 the place came to the re-established powiat Raciborski and the Silesian Voivodeship.
