Samborowice ( German  Schammerwitz ) is a village in Upper Silesia . Administratively it lies in the municipality of Pietrowice Wielkie (Groß Peterwitz) in the powiat Raciborski (district of Ratibor) in the Silesian Voivodeship .

Samborowice is five kilometers southeast of the municipality seat Pietrowice Wielkie (Groß Peterwitz), ten kilometers southwest of the district town Racibórz (Ratibor) and 67 kilometers west of the voivodeship capital Katowice .

The place is in close proximity to the border with the Czech Republic. The Troy and Zinna rivers flow nearby .

history

The place was created in the 13th century at the latest. It was first mentioned in a document in 1288. In this document, an Adelheid from Zolherinna, wife of Konrad, and her three brothers renounce their claims to an inheritance in Schammerwitz. This was done in favor of the Groebniger Johanniter .

Originally the village belonged to the principality of Opava-Jägerndorf, after the Silesian Wars it came to the Prussian part of the principality. This was finally assigned to the Leobschütz district. The place was mentioned in 1784 in the book Beytrage to describe Silesia as Schammerwitz and Schamrowitz , belonged to a Mr. von Reiswitz and was in the Leobschütz district. At that time it had 161 residents, a stately home, a farm , 15 gardeners and six cottagers. In 1865 Schammerwitz consisted of a manor and a community. The manor once belonged to Chancellor Bolik and came into the possession of Prof. Dr. Cow. At that time, the place had 14 gardener positions and 54 housekeeping positions, as well as two millers and a school. At the mouth of the Troy in the Zinna was the pila mill that belonged to the place. The residents lived u. a. from the coal trade.

In the referendum in Upper Silesia on March 20, 1921, 487 local voters voted for Upper Silesia to remain with Germany and 25 for membership in Poland. Schammerwitz stayed with the German Empire after the division of Upper Silesia . The new parish church was built from 1931 to 1933. In 1936 the place was renamed Schammerau in the course of a wave of renaming during the Nazi era . Until 1945 the place was in the district of Ratibor .

In 1945 the until then German place came under Polish administration and was then attached to the Silesian Voivodeship and renamed the Polish Szamarzowice , a short time later Samborowice . In 1950 the place came to the Opole Voivodeship. Archaeological excavations from 1973 to 1981 uncovered graves from the time of the Lausitz culture. In 1975 the place came to the Katowice Voivodeship. In 1999 the place came to the re-established powiat Raciborski and the Silesian Voivodeship.

Culture

The town celebrates the customs of leading the bear to the carnival and the St. Martin's parade on St. Martin's Day.
