Kornice ( German  Kornitz ) is a place in Upper Silesia . Administratively it lies in the municipality of Pietrowice Wielkie (Groß Peterwitz) in the powiat Raciborski (district of Ratibor) in the Silesian Voivodeship .

Kornice is three kilometers east of the municipality seat Pietrowice Wielkie (Groß Peterwitz), nine kilometers west of the district town Racibórz (Ratibor) and 66 kilometers west of the voivodeship capital Katowice .

The place is close to the border with the Czech Republic.

history

The place was created in the 13th century at the latest. The place was first mentioned in a document in 1283. 1295–1305 the place was mentioned in a document as "Cornica" in the Liber fundationis episcopatus Vratislaviensis ( Tithe Register of the Diocese of Breslau) .

The place was mentioned in 1784 in the book Beytrage for the description of Silesia as Korni (t) z , belonged to a count of Bernini and was in the principality of Ratibor. At that time it had 185 inhabitants, a farm , a mill, a bleaching facility, 30 gardeners and five cottagers . In 1865 Kornitz consisted of a Dominium and a rustic community. The Kornitz police district also included the Dominialvorwerke Neuhof and Paulshoff and the Sechshäuser colony. The dominium had been owned by Dr. med. Wilhelm von Eickstedt and operated peat cutting and kept a herd of merino sheep. At that time, the place had 22 gardeners and 16 cottages, as well as a water mill and two Kretschmer (innkeepers). The school was in Janowitz, but since the way was very difficult, lessons were given on site in a rented room during the winter months.

In the referendum in Upper Silesia on March 20, 1921, 133 people entitled to vote voted for Upper Silesia to remain with Germany and 79 for membership in Poland. On the estate, 62 voted for Germany and three for Poland. Kornitz remained with the German Empire after the division of Upper Silesia . Until 1945 the place was in the district of Ratibor .

In 1945 the formerly German town came under Polish administration and was then attached to the Silesian Voivodeship and renamed the Polish Kornice . In 1950 the place came to the Opole Voivodeship, 1975 to the Katowice Voivodeship and in 1999 to the re-established Powiat Raciborski and the Silesian Voivodeship.

  • The Roman Catholic Nepomuk Chapel, built in the 18th century. Inside a baroque figure of St. John of Nepmok. In 2011 the chapel was enlarged.
