The municipality Pietrowice Wielkie (German Groß Peterwitz ) is a rural municipality in the powiat Raciborski (district of Ratibor) in the Silesian Voivodeship . The municipality seat is Pietrowice Wielkie ( Groß Peterwitz ).

The municipality has an area of 68.07 km², of which 87% are areas for agriculture and 4% are forest areas. The municipality occupies 12.51% of the area of the district.

In 2002 the community had 11,522 inhabitants. In addition to the Polish population, 14.3% stated German nationality (ethnicity) and 15.7% Silesian in the 2002 census . 923 people (12.67%) with Polish citizenship spoke German in their private lives. In the 2011 census, with a total population of 7,022 people, the percentage of Germans was 24.1% or 1,689 people.

bilingualism
With a population that is more than 20% Germans, the municipality can introduce the rights guaranteed in Polish minority law, such as bilingual place name signs. The municipality submitted the application, and since 2016 they have been waiting for the place names to be determined by a commission.
