Pedro Mendes , full name Pedro Filipe Teodósio Mendes (born October 1, 1990 in Neuchâtel , Switzerland ), is a Portuguese football player .

Career

In the club

Mendes moved to the youth department of Sporting Lisbon in 2005 and signed his first professional contract with the capital club four years later. First, however, he played on loan for the Portuguese third division club Real Massamá and the Swiss second division Servette FC , with whom he rose at the end of the season. In the summer of 2011, he moved to Real Madrid Castilla , Real Madrid's second team, as part of another loan deal . He then made his debut on December 7, 2011 under his compatriot José Mourinho as a substitute for the professional team in the UEFA Champions League .

For the 2012/13 season he returned to Sporting Lisbon and became team captain of the B-team playing in the Segunda League . In the course of the season he was also used sporadically by the professionals. On May 28, 2013, he signed a five-year contract with the Italian first division club FC Parma . In the second half of the 2013/14 season he played on loan for first division rivals US Sassuolo Calcio .

On July 6, 2015, Mendes signed a four-year contract with the French first division club Stade Rennes . On July 18, 2017, he moved to league rivals HSC Montpellier .

In the national team

Mendes made 50 international appearances for Portugal's junior national teams. In October 2018 he was appointed to the senior national team for the first time by national coach Fernando Santos . He then made his international debut in a friendly against Scotland on October 14, 2018 .
