Per Johan Anders "PJ" Axelsson (born February 26, 1975 in Kungälv ) is a former Swedish ice hockey player and current - scout , who in the course of his active career between 1992 and 2012 among other things 851 games for the Boston Bruins in the National Hockey League as well 401 more for his parent club Frölunda HC in the Swedish Elitserien on the position of the left winger . Axelsson, who won medals at world championships several times with the Swedish national team , celebrated his greatest career success with the Olympic victory at the 2006 Winter Olympics .

Career

Axelsson played four seasons in his hometown Frölunda , in the Swedish Elitserien , before he was drafted by the Boston Bruins in the 1995 NHL Entry Draft at position 177.

It was not until the 1997/98 season that Axelsson moved to Boston and played all of the 82 games in his rookie season with the Bruins. The left winger was not one of the great scorers of the NHL and could not score more than 40 points in any season. Nevertheless, he became a permanent fixture in the Bruins team.

2000 and 2001 played for the Swedish national team at the World Championships and in 2001 was also able to win a bronze medal. At the 2002 Olympic Games he played again in the "Tre Kronor" jersey.

During the lockout , he played for Frölunda again. Known as an extremely fair player, Axelson got 95 penalty minutes with his usual hardship in the NHL. A mark he didn't even reach halfway in twice as many games in the NHL.

When the NHL resumed play, he was back on the ice for the Bruins. At the 2006 Olympic Games in Turin , he was Olympic champion with the Swedish team.

In April 2013 he announced the end of his career. Since then he has worked as a scout for his ex-team Boston Bruins.
