The PETCO Park is a baseball stadium in the US city of San Diego in the state of California . It is the home of MLB - Franchise San Diego Padres in the National League . The stadium currently holds 42,445 spectators.

history

The stadium was built south of the Gaslamp Quarter in close proximity to the San Diego Convention Center . The stadium was originally supposed to be ready for the 2002 season. Due to legal and political problems, however, the construction was delayed, so that the Padres had to play in the 2003 and 2004 seasons at Qualcomm Stadium , which they previously shared with the San Diego Chargers football team .

On April 17, 2008, the Padres and Colorado Rockies played a 22 innings game. The Rockies eventually won 2-1. It was the longest game in the MLB in nearly 15 years.

Events

The first concert in PETCO Park was that of the Rolling Stones on November 11, 2005. In February 2007, the semifinals and finals of the 2006 World Baseball Classic were played here for the first time. On November 4th, 2008 Madonna gave a concert at PETCO Park as part of her Sticky & Sweet Tour . This was the first time she had toured San Diego for the first time in 23 years.
