Peter Brian Wells
Peter Brian Wells (born May 12, 1963 in Tulsa , Oklahoma , Oklahoma , USA ) is an American clergyman and diplomat of the Holy See .
Career
Wells graduated in Philosophy from St. Meinrad Seminary College in Indiana and Catholic Theology as a student at the Pontifical North America College in Rome . In 1990 he obtained a bachelor's degree in theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University , and in 1992 a licentiate in theology from the Pontifical Institute “John Paul II” for studies on marriage and the family in Rome.
On 12 July 1991 he received the Roman Catholic Diocese of Tulsa , the ordination . He was then chaplain at the Cathedral of the Holy Family of Nazareth in Tulsa and secretary to the Bishop of Tulsa and vicar for religious education in the diocese . In 1998 he obtained his licentiate in canon law from the Pontifical Gregorian University and in 1999 he was appointed to Dr. iur. can. PhD . At the same time he was a student at the Pontifical Diplomatic Academy .
He entered the diplomatic service of the Holy See on July 1, 1999. First he worked in the Apostolic Nunciature in Nigeria and since 2002 in the General Affairs Section of the Vatican State Secretariat .
Pope Benedict XVI appointed him on July 16, 2009 as assessor of the General Affairs Section of the State Secretariat.
On February 8, 2016 Pope appointed him Francis to Titular Archbishop of Marcianopolis and Apostolic Nuncio in South Africa and Botswana . On February 13 of the same year he was also appointed Apostolic Nuncio in Lesotho and Namibia . The Pope personally donated his episcopal ordination on March 19 of the same year. Co-consecrators were Archbishop Giovanni Angelo Becciu and Cardinal Fernando Filoni . On June 13, 2016, he was also appointed Apostolic Nuncio in Swaziland .
