Peter Brock (racing driver)
Peter Geoffrey Brock (born February 26, 1945 in Hurstbridge , Victoria , † September 8, 2006 in Gidgegannup , Western Australia ) was an Australian racing car driver .
Career
His fans also called him “Peter Perfect”, “King of the Mountain” or just briefly “Brocky”. His father was a mechanic and stimulated his interest in cars. Brock began his racing career with touring car and rallycross races; He became internationally known when he won the Bathurst 500 for the first time in 1972 (but from 1973 Bathurst 1000 ). In total, he was able to win this prestigious Australian competition on Mount Panorama (hence the name “King of the Mountain”) nine times. In 2003 he won the Bathurst 24-hour race with his teammates Greg Murphy, Todd Kelly and Jason Bright .
61-year-old Brock died in an accident at the TargaWest Rally near Perth ( Western Australia ) when he lost control of his Daytona Sportscar on a wet road in a difficult corner in the second special stage ( Gidgegannup ) the driver's side hit a tree. His co-driver Mick Hone survived the serious accident and was injured.
