Peter G. Kirchschläger

Peter G. Kirchschläger (born March 29, 1977 in Vienna ) is a Roman Catholic theologian and philosopher . He is Professor of Theological Ethics and Head of the Institute for Social Ethics ISE at the University of Lucerne . His main research interests are digitization , automation , robotization and the use of artificial intelligence from an ethical perspective as well as economic , financial and corporate ethics , the ethics of human rights and political ethics .

Life

Peter G. Kirchschläger studied theology and Jewish studies in Lucerne , Rome ( Pontificia Università Gregoriana ) and Jerusalem and completed his first degree in 2001 with a degree in theology at the University of Lucerne . He completed his second degree in philosophy , religious studies and political science in 2003 with a licentiate from the University of Zurich . From 2000 to 2008 he was a member of the Swiss Study Foundation . In 2002, thanks to the New Entrepreneurship Award from the Gebert Rüf Foundation, he completed an intensive course in entrepreneurship at Babson College. From 2004 to 2008 he did his doctorate at the University of Zurich as part of a research project of the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF). From September 2005 to August 2006, he did a research stay at the Divinity School at the University of Chicago (USA) with a grant from the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF), the Swiss Study Foundation and the Otto Herz Study Foundation . After completing his doctorate at the Theological Faculty of the University of Zurich, he completed his habilitation in Theological Ethics with a focus on social ethics at the Theological Faculty of the University of Friborg and was recognized as a private lecturer . Kirchschläger was a Fellow at the Raoul Wallenberg Institute of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law at Lund University (Sweden) from 2013 to 2017 , a visiting scholar at the University of Technology Sydney (Australia) in 2013 and a visiting professor at the Faculty of Theology and Religious Studies from 2013 to 2014 at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (Belgium). From 2015 to 2017 he was a research fellow at the Theological Faculty of the University of Lucerne (Switzerland) and Visiting Fellow at Yale University (USA). Since 2014 he has been a Research Fellow at the University of the Free State , Bloemfontein (South Africa) and since 2015 visiting professor at the Leuphana University Lüneburg (Germany). Since 2017 he has been professor for theological ethics and head of the Institute for Social Ethics ISE at the Theological Faculty of the University of Lucerne.

From 2003 to 2015 Kirchschläger was co-founder and co-director of the International Human Rights Forum Lucerne . From 2007 to 2015 he was a lecturer, co-founder and co-director of the Center for Human Rights Education of the Pedagogical University of Lucerne . Since 2004 he has been teaching and giving guest lectures at various universities and colleges in Switzerland and abroad (including Harvard University , Columbia University , University of Oxford , ...). From 2011 to 2015 he was a deputy professor at the Theological University in Chur , where he was also Dean of Research from 2013 to 2015. From 2011 to 2015 he was a member of the board of directors of the Swiss Competence Center for Human Rights. From 2011 to 2017 he was a member of the jury for the Swiss Ethics Prize. Since 2017 he has been the founder and head of the "Lucerne Summer University: Ethics in a Global Context LSUE" under the patronage of UNESCO . Since 2018 he has been the founder and director of the "Lucerne Graduate School in Ethics".

Peter G. Kirchschläger is an advisory expert on ethical issues for national and international organizations and institutions (e.g. for the UN , UNESCO , the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe OSCE, the European Union EU, the Council of Europe , various companies and NGOs ). He is a reviewer for the German Research Foundation (DFG), the Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG), the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic (TA CR), the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNF) and for the journal for economic and corporate ethics zfwu. He is a member of the Justitia et Pax Commission of the Swiss Bishops' Conference and a member of a working group of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) to develop a standard for taking ethical issues into account in the development of IT systems and software. He is Academic Director of the Freedom Flowers Foundation and Human Rights Adviser of the non-profit organization "Musicians for Human Rights", member of the advisory board of the non-profit organizations "Wasser für Wasser" and "Play for Rights". He is also a member of the “Lucerne Elementary Schools” association and a member of the Advisory Board of the “Dezentrum” think tank for decentralization.
