Peter Marzinkowski

Peter Marzinkowski CSSp (born March 19, 1939 in Liegnitz , Silesia ) is a German Spiritan Father and emeritus bishop of Alindao in the Central African Republic .

Life

After being expelled from Silesia, Peter Marzinkowski came to Neuss with his family, where he grew up. He joined the Mission Society of the Holy Spirit . In 1961 he made the temporary vows in Heimbach and in 1964 the perpetual vows in Rome .

Marzinkowski studied philosophy at the seminary of the Spiritans in the Knechtsteden monastery and from 1963 to 1967 theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome . On July 21, 1966 Marzinkowski received in Cologne the priesthood .

In 1968 his order sent Marzinkowski to the Central African Republic, where he first learned Sango , the local language. He worked as a missionary in Bria (1968–1977), pastor of the parish of Notre Dame des Victoires in Bambari and diocesan commissioner for the formation of the laity (1977–1982).

After his return to Germany he was entrusted with promoting the mission . From 1986 to 1992 he was general councilor of his congregation . After his return to the Central African Republic, he was vicar general in the diocese of Mbaiki from 1993 to 2000 and from 2000 he was provincial superior of his order in Germany.

In 2004 he was appointed bishop of the newly founded diocese of Alindao in the Central African Republic by Pope John Paul II . He was ordained bishop on April 3, 2005 by Paulin Pomodimo , Archbishop of Bangui ; Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Bangassou , Juan-José Aguirre Muñoz MCCI , and the Bishop of Mbaïki , Guerrino Perin MCCI.

In addition to German, French, English and Italian, Peter Marzinkowski is also fluent in Sango, the national language in the Central African Republic.

In 2009, Peter Marzinkowski suffered a cardiac arrest on a trip through Alsace , but was reanimated.

On March 19, 2014, Pope Francis accepted Peter Marzinkowski's resignation due to reasons of age.

Honors

The Dr. H. G. Waider Foundation for International Understanding and Peace awarded Bishop Marzinkowski the Winfried Prize on September 17, 2009 in Fulda .
