Peter Schütze (born June 8, 1948 in Detmold ) is a German author, literary scholar, dramaturge and reciter.

Life

After his school days in Detmold, Peter Schütze studied German, art history and philosophy at the Universities of Mainz and Marburg . He finished his student days with a dissertation on Peter Hacks . Gert Mattenklott and Hans Heinz Holz were his reviewers. In 1976 he moved with his then partner Mechthild Curtius from Siegen to Frankfurt am Main . There he interned with editing tasks in the publishing house of the authors , translated psychoanalytic writings for the Suhrkamp and Klett publishers and worked as a journalist and critic - mainly for the Deutsche Volkszeitung in Düsseldorf in close cooperation with Agnes Hüfner and Hans Brenner. In 1976 his theater career began, which took him to the Thalia Theater in Hamburg via Dortmund, Bielefeld and Wiesbaden in 1980 . In the following years he was busy with book projects and as an employee of the Hamburger Morgenpost ; In 1987 he went to the Theater Hagen as chief dramaturge, director and actor and taught theater and film history at the University of Bochum . From 1998 to 2000 he worked as a dramaturge and author in Lutherstadt Wittenberg . In 2001 Schütze took over the artistic direction of the SchlossSpiele Hohenlimburg, which he held until 2014. Today he lives alternately in Hohenlimburg and his hometown Detmold.

Peter Schütze is the author of numerous books and essays - including monographs on Peter Hacks , August Strindberg and Fritz Kortner . He also worked as a librettist for the composers Walter Steffens and Dietrich Lohff , wrote revues, youth plays (“Children's Crusade”) and plays (“Katharinennacht”, “Luther and Faust”). In 2014 his Westphalian chronicle “The Lion Brothers” was published. He staged around 30 classical and modern pieces on various stages and appeared as an actor and reciter. Since 1988 Schütze has appeared in more than 70 literary, humorous and satirical programs in numerous German cities. Readings are held with him on a regular basis at the Fernuniversität in Hagen . His repertoire includes texts by Wilhelm Busch , Johann Wolfgang von Goethe , Friedrich Schiller , Heinrich Heine , Theodor Fontane , Christian Morgenstern , Kurt Tucholsky , Joachim Ringelnatz and Erich Kästner . With many of these solo programs he appears for the company "Melange" in North Rhine-Westphalia.

In his hometown Detmold, Peter Schütze acts as President of the Grabbe Society , in Hagen as Chairman of the Karl Halle Society. In 2001 in Hagen he was awarded the Alfred Müller Felsenburg Prize for upright literature .
