Petrovice (Hungarian Trencsénpéteri - until 1902 Petrovic ) is a municipality near the town of Bytča in northern Slovakia .
Geographical location
The municipality is located in the valley of the Petrovička river in the Javorník Mountains and, in addition to the main town, is divided into three further parts of the municipality : Magale , Pláne and Setechov (incorporated in 1964).
history
The place was first mentioned in writing in 1312 as Petré , at that time it belonged to Bytča. In 1598 there were 13 houses in the village and the inhabitants were engaged in agriculture and forest work. The local church, dedicated to the birth of the Virgin Mary, was built in the 18th century. During the Second World War the part of the municipality Magale was burned down, a memorial plaque in the village reminds of this today.
