history
The place Petrovskoye was first mentioned in writing around 1207. Another mention was made in documents from the late 15th century, where Petrovskoye was mentioned as a property of the Rostov Metropolitan . At the beginning of the 18th century the village had around 230 inhabitants.
In the course of the administrative reform in the Russian Empire at the end of the 18th century, the place was subordinated to the Yaroslavl governorate and received city status as Petrowsk . At the same time, Petrovsk's own coat of arms was developed, which is strongly linked to the coat of arms of the provincial capital Yaroslavl with the depiction of a bear with a battle ax. In 1783, the Peter and Paul Church was built in the center of Petrowsk, to this day one of the most famous structures in the village with a bell tower that houses a clockwork made in Buckinghamshire .
Although the railway line from Moscow to Yaroslavl was moved through Petrovsk in the 1870s, it lost its city status in 1925. Since 1943, Petrovskoye has officially been an urban-type settlement.
