history
Danilow was first mentioned in writing in 1592. According to tradition, it was built at the end of the 13th century and was founded by Moscow's Grand Duke Daniil Alexandrovich . The name Danilov is said to come from him.
During the times of the so-called Smuta around 1607, Danilow was devastated by Polish-Lithuanian troops, but was able to develop as a place characterized by handicrafts until the 18th century. In 1777, as part of the Russian administrative reform of the 1770s, it received city rights with its own city arms and became the capital of the Ujesd (district) of the same name . In 1872 Danilow moved the railway line from Yaroslavl to Vologda , the section of which from Yaroslavl to Danilow has been a section of the Trans-Siberian Railway since the beginning of the 20th century.
In the 1930s, the former Ujesd Danilow was reorganized as the Rajon Danilow , whose main town is Danilow to this day.
