Rectory in Markt Wald

The rectory in Markt Wald , a municipality in the Unterallgäu district in the Bavarian administrative district of Swabia , was built in 1719 and has been heavily renovated over time. The building is located northwest of the Church of the Assumption and is a listed building. An associated barn from 1794 was demolished in 1968. A fundamental renovation took place in 1987/1988.

Building description

Figure of Mary on the south-west corner of the rectory

The two-storey rectory consists of six to five axes and is covered with a high pitched roof. Below the roof, on the long sides and on the gable, there is a strong, profiled eaves cornice . A modern staircase leads to the entrance of the rectory on the south side in the third axis . The entrance door is flanked by small, rectangular peep windows. Inside, the rectory is crossed in the axis of the entrance door by a corridor divided by two basket arches . On the left side of the hall is the heavily renovated staircase. The building has a collar beam roof with a horizontal roof truss . One of the collar beams bears the inscription 17 MHIW 19.

Interior

Inside there are several wooden figures. The figure of Anna selbdritt from Steinekirch dates from around 1500 . The figure was probably formerly part of the high altar of the Assumption of Mary in Markt Wald. The figure of St. Sebastian was created towards the end of the 15th century and is believed to have come from the Assumption of Mary on the former Sebastian altar. A crucifix comes from the middle of the 18th century and the figures of St. Joseph with baby Jesus, John the Baptist and four seated angels come from the second quarter of the 18th century . A figure that presumably represents Saint Gregory the Great was made around 1720/1730. The depiction of Saint Roch comes from the first quarter of the 18th century. A baby Jesus, which may have been placed on the former sound cover of the pulpit in Assumption of Mary, is from the 18th century, as are two putti from the middle of the 18th century. The four angel heads with surrounding acanthus tendrils were created around 1700.

In addition to the large number of wooden figures, there are also paintings in the rectory. The painting with Jesus on the Mount of Olives was probably made by Ferdinand Wagner in the mid-19th century . It is closed with a round arch and was the former picture of the fasting on the high altar of the parish church. Another painting shows the Mother of God with angels and below the pastor Feistle. The painting, signed Ferdinand Wagner from Schwabmünchen in 1842 , was intended for a side altar , but could not be installed due to a protest by the ordinariate about the depiction of the pastor. For this reason, a copy of a painting by Guido Reni was attached to the side altar .
