Philippe Favre (born December 11, 1961 in Geneva , † December 6, 2013 in Val Thorens , France ) was a Swiss automobile racing driver .

Career

He started with racing in Formula Ford . In 1986 he finished second behind Roland Ratzenberger in a Van Diemen at the Formula Ford Festival at Brands Hatch . In 1987 he got promoted to Formula 3 and drove in the British championship for Reynard Racing Cars . He won one victory and finished seventh in the final. In 1988 he also drove in Formula 3, this time for Alan Docking Racing . He took two podiums but no victory, and finished the season ninth.

In 1989 he drove eight races in Formula 3000 for GA Motorsport . After he was on pole position in the first race of the season at Silverstone, things only went downhill for him from then on. He collided with Eddie Irvine in the second race of the season in Vallelunga and in Pau he spun on an oil stain caused by Marco Apicella's vehicle. There was a mass collision with 15 vehicles. When the race started again, he was slowed down by a puncture. At Jerez he was out due to a gearbox failure and at Brands Hatch with handling problems. In 1990 he drove two races for Leyton House in Formula 3000 and also tested their Formula 1 vehicles, which were driven by Ivan Capelli and Maurício Gugelmin . That year he also drove three Formula 3000 races in Japan. In 1991 he was also a test driver for Leyton House in Formula 1.

He started in many endurance races such as Le Mans , Daytona , Sebring and Spa-Francorchamps . In 2000 he took the pole position twice with the works Lister in the FIA GT championship , on the Hungaroring and in Magny-Cours .

In 2001 he drove a Renault Mégane in the Danish touring car championship and a Porsche 996 GT3 RS in the French GT championship for the Larbre Compétition team .

Favre was killed in a skiing accident in France in December 2013. He leaves behind his wife and two children.
