Heinrich Franz von Mansfeld
Heinrich Franz von Mansfeld , Imperial Prince and Prince von Fondi (born November 21, 1640/41 in Bornstedt , † June 18, 1715 in Vienna ) was an Austrian diplomat , field marshal and President of the Court War Council .
Life
Heinrich Franz, who came from the Harz count family Mansfeld , entered the Habsburg service at a young age . After a short military service he was almost always in court or diplomatic service. Despite this little military experience and knowledge, he made it to field marshal and president of the court war council. From 1680 to 1682 he was envoy to the French and from 1683 to 1690 to the Spanish court. He was continuously promoted to higher military ranks, in 1689 to field marshal. From 1684 to 1701 he was Colonel court marshal at the imperial court in Vienna. In 1701 he was appointed President of the Court War Council. In this position he appeared repeatedly as an opponent of Prince Eugene . In 1703, Mansfeld, who was unpopular with generals and the army, was relieved of this post. He then remained as a colonel chamberlain at the Viennese court until his death .
In 1690 he led Princess Maria Anna of Pfalz-Neuburg as the bride of King Charles II of Spain to her wedding in Valladolid ; for this the king awarded him the Neapolitan principality of Fondi , the title of Spanish grandee and the order of the Golden Fleece . The dignity of imperial prince granted to him was confirmed in 1696 and 1709 and made public by Emperor Joseph I in 1711 .
He had Lukas von Hildebrand build a pleasure palace with a garden for himself from 1697 , which the Schwarzenberg family acquired after his death and, as the Schwarzenbergpalais, is an important Viennese monument.
