The Phillips 66 includes the split-off or placed as a separate company on the stock market downstream -Business of ConocoPhillips . The name is derived from the Phillips Petroleum Company and their brand "Phillips 66". Phillips was an American oil and gas company that merged with Conoco on August 30, 2002 to form ConocoPhillips.
The company also has a 50% interest in Chevron Phillips Chemical .
history
Phillips Petroleum Company (1917-2002)
In 1917, LE Phillips and his brother Frank Phillips founded the company in Bartlesville , Oklahoma . In 1954 the United States Supreme Court ruled in Phillips Petroleum vs. State of Wisconsin that the US federal government should regulate the prices of natural gas under the Natural Gas Act.
Later in 1954, Mesa Petroleum tried to acquire Phillips in a hostile takeover, Phillips was able to maintain independence, but had to take on additional debt. In 1969 Phillips discovered the first North Sea oil in the Ekofisk field in the Norwegian sector during test drilling .
From the ConocoPhillips to the Phillips 66
In 2002 the Phillips Petroleum Company merged with Conoco to form ConocoPhillips . This spun off the end customer business on May 1st, 2012 and revived the old brand name Phillips 66.
