Yves Klein's blue sponge reliefs in the music theater in the Gelsenkirchen district

The work was commissioned by Stadt-Sparkasse Gelsenkirchen to mark its centenary. The title of the piece is taken from Greek and can be translated using the incidence of light. Zimmermann describes the connection to music as follows:

“In the case of the Prelude, this process refers to the changes in color surfaces as they occur due to the way light falls: here in the area of timbres in the broadest sense. The composition was inspired by the monochrome wall surfaces of the foyer in the Musiktheater im Revier, Gelsenkirchen, designed by Yves Klein . "

In the first part, the inserts of various instrument groups are set over shimmering strings, while the structure in terms of scoring and dynamics is constantly increasing until the sound is dominated by brass, organ and percussion .

The beginning of the fourth set the ninth symphony of Beethoven marks the transition to the second part, the music quotes from different epochs collages . The cited pieces of music include Scriabin's Le Poème de l'Extase , the hymn Veni creator spiritus , Wagner's Parsifal , the 1st Brandenburg Concerto by Bach and Tchaikovsky's Dance of the Sugar Fairy .
