Pierre Sim

Pierre Sim (born March 23, 1929 in La Seyne-sur-Mer ; † June 15, 2020 there ) was a French jazz musician ( double bass ).

Sim worked as a musical self-taught first in Saint-Raphaël with Jean Tordo ; In 1948 he played in the New Orleans Jazz Band de Toulon with Bob Garcia. In 1950 he worked for Roger Chaput in Marseille and for Léo Missir the following year. In the mid-1950s he played in the Paris jazz scene with Django Reinhardt (1953), René Urtreger (1955), René Thomas , Bobby Jaspar , Roger Guérin , Zoot Sims , Sonny Gray and Michel Hausser (1956). In 1958 there were recordings with Joseph Reinhardt ( Joseph Reinhardt joue Django , 1958). Guest artists such as the gospel singer Brother John Sellers and The Golden Gate Quartet also accompanied . In the 1960s he played a. a. with Guy Lafitte , Don Byas / Jacques Denjean , Jef Gilson , Elek Bacsik , Buck Clayton , Maxim Saury , Memphis Slim , from 1968 with Bill Coleman / Buddy Tate and 1974 in the quintet of vibraphonist Dany Doriz . According to Tom Lord , he was involved in 30 recording sessions in the field of jazz between 1957 and 1977, most recently with Georges Arvanitas ( Feeling Jazzy ).

He was also an accompanist for show artists and singers such as Henri Salvador , Eddie Constantine & Marlene Dietrich , Johnny Hallyday , Charles Aznavour (1963-64), Nana Mouskouri , Jacques Brel (1964-66), Alain Barrière , Sacha Distel , Colette Renard , Charles Trenet , François Deguelt and Nancy Holloway . In 1990 he also appeared in a double bass trio with Jean-Marie Carniel and Thomas Bramerie .
