Roger Guérin (* 9. January 1926 in Saarbrücken , † 6. February 2010 in Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer , Bouches-du-Rhône ) was a French jazz - trumpet player and singer .

Guérin studied trumpet and cornet at the Paris Conservatory and became a professional musician in 1947, first working with Aimé Barelli , later with Django Reinhardt , Don Byas , Hubert Fol , James Moody , Benny Golson , Bernard Peiffer , Fats Sadi , Lucky Thompson , Kenny Clarke , Blossom Dearie , Martial Solal , Michel Legrand and André Hodeir's Jazz Group de Paris together.

In 1958 Guérin was the French representative of the International Youth Band at the Newport Jazz Festival and in Brussels. In 1959 he was part of Mimi Perrin's vocal group Les Double Six with Eddy Louiss and Ward Swingle . In 1960 he broke shortly Clark Terry in the Big Band of Quincy Jones from. With Duke Ellington and Louis Armstrong he developed the soundtrack for the film Paris Blues 1961. Since then Guerin has worked more as a studio musician with a wide range of styles, but occasionally appeared at festivals, such as in 1962 with the Dizzy Gillespie- Big Band in Antibes and there with his own formations in 1961 and 1967, in Recklinghausen in 1961, 1963 and 1965. Since the late 1960s, Guérin has mainly worked as a teacher, but participated in two big band projects of his colleague Martial Solal in the 1980s and 1990s .

Guérin played both traditional and modern jazz and was thus an adaptable partner for many American guest soloists. He showed a certain preference for humorous quotes and a metallic tone.

In 1959 he received the Prix ​​Django Reinhardt .
